"RISELEY, a parish, a village, and a sub-district, in the district and county of Bedford. The village stands 3½ miles NE of Sharnbrook railway station, and 9 N of Bedford; and has a post-office under Higham-Ferrers, and a police station. The parish comprises 2,980 acres. Real property, £4,134. Pop., 1,026. Houses, 221. The property is subdivided. The manor belongs to Lord St. John. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Ely. Value, £179. Patron, Lord St. John. The church is a fine structure; and comprises nave and double chancel, with porch and tower. There are chapels for Baptists, Moravians, and Wesleyans, and a national school. - The sub-district contains also four other parishes. Acres, 13,190. Pop., 2,778. Houses, 594."
