Church History

St Mary's began in 1831 as a chapel of ease to Speen St Mary, and then became a separate ecclesiastical parish in 1844. The church was declared redundant 20 Mar 1973 and sunsequently demolished.  More information about this church may be available from Church History, by clicking on the church name above and/or on the place name at the top of this page. Register D/P 116B/1/10 contains a letter from the Church Commissioners regarding removal of graves from the crypt. The remains to be cremated at Reading Crematorium and the ashes scattered in the Garden of Remembrance.   The Church Commissioners' letter is transcribed in full on the Speenhamland Parish Register CD produced by the Berkshire FHS.  Should you have interests in any of the crypt burials then be aware that there are differences between details given in the Church Commissioners' letter and the burial register(s).

Church Records

Registers begin in 1831 (marriages 1847) and are deposited at the Berkshire Record Office. Burial registers exist to 1881 and a funeral register 1953-1971. See also Church Records.
