Church History

Built in 1854 as a chapel to Chester: St. Mary on the Hill. In 1882 it became the district church for the townships of Moston, Upton by Chester and Little Mollington, and part of the township of Blacon cum Crabwall (previously served by Chester: St. Mary on the Hill and Chester: St. Oswald).. The boundaries of "The Consolidated Chapelry of the Holy Ascension, Upton" were described in the London Gazette on 8 December 1882:

" I. All that isolated and detached portion of the parish of Saint Mary on the Hill, Chester, in the county of Chester and in the diocese of Chester which is comprised within and is co-extensive with the limits of the township of Moston, of the township of Little Mollington, and of the greater part of the township of Upton."

"II. All that portion of the parish of Saint Oswald Chester in the county arid diocese aforesaid which is comprised within and is co-extensive with the limits of the remaining part of the township of Upton aforesaid, and which abuts upon the eastern side of the hereinbefore described portion of the parish of Saint Mary on the Hill Chester aforesaid.

"III. All that isolated and detached portion of the said parish of Saint Oswald Chester which abuts upon the western side of the said hereinbefore described portion of the parish of Saint Mary on the Hill Chester aforesaid, and which is comprised within the limits of that part of the township of Blacon with Crabwall, wherein Crabwall Hall is situate."
