HAMPTON

"HAMPTON, a township in the parish of MALPAS, higher division of the hundred of BROXTON, county palatine of CHESTER, 2¾ miles (N. E.) from Malpas, containing 207 inhabitants." [From Samuel Lewis A Topographical Dictionary of England  (1831) ©Mel Lockie]

  • Hampton was a township in Malpas ancient parish, Broxton hundred (SJ 5149), which became a civil parish in 1866.
  • It included the hamlets of Ashton Cross, Broomy Bank and No Man's Heath (part).
  • The population was 159 in 1801, 309 in 1851, 326 in 1901, 290 in 1951, and 409 in 2001.
  • The civil parish was abolished in 2015 and incorporated into No Man's Heath & District and Malpas.
