Church History

It was founded in 1879.

Church History

Founded in 1905 as a chapel to New Brighton: St. James, becoming the district church for parts of the townships of Liscard and Wallasey in 1909. The boundaries of "The District Chapelry of Emmanuel, New Brighton" were described in the London Gazette on 18 May 1909: 

"All that part of the new parish (sometime district chapelry) of Saint James, New Brighton, in the county of Chester and in the diocese of Chester, which is bounded upon the north- last by the middle of the River Mersey, upon the south-east by the new parish of Saint Mary, Liscard, upon the south-west and upon part of the west by the parish of Wallasey, both in the said county and diocese, and upon the remaining sides, that is to say, upon the remaining part of the west and upon the north-west, by an imaginary line commencing upon the boundary which divides the said parish of Wallasey from the said new parish of Saint James, New Brighton, at the point in the middle of Mount Pleasant-road where it is joined by the footpath leading from Earlston-road, and extending thence north-eastward along the middle of Mount Pleasant-road for a distance of four chains and a half or thereabouts to its junction with Wentworth-avenue, and extending thence north-westward along the middle of Wentworth-avenue for a distance of seven chains and a half or thereabouts to the wall or fence at its northern end, and extending thence north-eastward along the said wall or fence for a distance of eight yards or thereabouts to the centre of the passage leading from Wentworth-avenue to Grafton-road and extending thence north-westward along the middle of the said passage for a distance of eleven yards or thereabouts to the point where such passage meets the southern end of Graftonroad, and extending thence first north-eastward to and then north-westward along the middle of Grafton-road for a distance of three chains and three-quarters or thereabouts to its junction with Field-road, and extending thence northeastward along the middle of Field-road for a distance of thirteen chains or thereabouts to its junction with Rowson-street, and extending thence first northward, then north-eastward, and then again northv/ard along the middle of Rowson-street for a distance of nine chains and a half or thereabouts to its junction with Molyneux-drive, and extending thence north-eastward along the middle of Molyneux-drive for a distance of eight chains or thereabouts to its junction with Green-avenue at the entrance to the Tower Grounds, and continuing thence northeastward in precise!y the same direction and in a straight line (thereby passing through the Tower Grounds) for a distance of sixty-five chains or thereabouts to a point in the middle of the River Mersey upon the boundary of the said new parish of Saint James, New Brighton."
