Church History

It was founded in 1896.

Church History

Founded in 1901 as a chapel to Shotwick: St. Michael & All Angels. In 1921 it became the district church for the township of Little Saughall and part of the township of Great Saughall (previously served by Shotwick: St. Michael & All Angels), and the extra-parochail place of Shotwick Park. The boundaries of "The District Chapelry of All Saints, Great Saughall" were described in the London Gazette on 16 August 1921: 

" I. All that part of the Parish of Shotwick, in the County of Chester and in the Diocese of Chester, which is bounded upon all sides as follows, that is to say, upon, part of the nortih-west by the Extra Parochial Place called Shotwick Park, in the said County and Diocese, upon the south-west by the Parish of Hawarden, in the County of Flint and in the Diocese of Saint Asaph, upon the south-east by the Parish, of the Holy Trinity, Chester, in the said County of Chester, and in the said Diocese of Chester, upon the north-east partly by the New Parish of the Holy Ascension, Upton, and partly by the Parish of Baokford, both in the said County of Chester and in the said Diocese of Chester, and upon the remaining part of the north-west by an imaginary line commencing at the point in the middle of Powey Lane where the boundaries of tihe said Parish of Backford, the New Parish of the Holy Trinity, Capenhurst, in the said County of Chester and in the said Diocese of Chester, and the said Parish of Shotwick all meet, and extending thence south-westward along the middle of Powey Lane for .a distance of 15 chains or thereabouts to its junction; with Parkgate Main Road, and extending thence north-westward along the middle of Parkgate Main Road for a distance of 5 chains or thereabouts: to its junction with.the occupation road which leads past the north-western side of Big Wood towards Shotwick Park, and extending thence south-westward along the middle of the said occupation road for a distance of 16 chains or thereabouts to the boundary which divides the said Parish; of Shotwick from the said Extra Parochial Place called Shotwick Park" 

"II. And also all the said Extra Parochial Place called Shotwick Park." 

The district was affected by the following boundary changes: 

  • 1960 December 21 — reduced when an area was transferred to Chester: Holy Trinity without the Walls (details not available).
