WILLASTON (near Neston)

  • Willaston was a township in Neston ancient parish, Wirral hundred (SJ 3377), which became a civil parish in 1866.
  • Since 1974 it has been an unparished area.
  • The population was 196 in 1801, 317 in 1851, 597 in 1901, 1458 in 1951, and 2922 in 2001.

Churches

  • Neston: St. Mary & St. Helen (Church of England). The ancient parish church for the township of Willaston.
  • Willaston, Christ Church (Church of England). Founded in 1854 as a chapel to Neston: St. Mary & St. Helen, becoming the district church for Willaston in 1865.
  • Willaston, Methodist Chapel (Primitive). Built in 1889.
