WYCHOUGH

"WICHAUGH, a township in the parish of MALPAS, higher division of the hundred of BROXTON, county palatine of CHESTER, 5½ miles (N. W.) from Whitchurch, containing 36 inhabitants." [From Samuel Lewis A Topographical Dictionary of England  (1831) ©Mel Lockie]

  • Wychough (or Wichaugh) was a township in Malpas ancient parish, Broxton hundred (SJ 4845), which became a civil parish in 1866.
  • It included the hamlet of Lower Wych (part).
  • The population was 19 in 1801, 19 in 1851, 16 in 1901, 13 in 1951, and 11 in 2001.
  • In 2015 the civil parish was abolished and incorporated into Malpas.
