"NICHOL-FOREST, a chapelry in the parish of Kirk-Andrews-upon-Esk, ward of Eskdale, county Cumberland, 10 miles N. by E. of Longtown, its post town. It is situated on the rivers Liddel and Kershop, which here form several cascades, and near the borders of Scotland. The inhabitants are chiefly engaged in agriculture. From the bed of the Liddel rises a medicinal spring strongly impregnated with alum, called Hert-feel Spa. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Carlisle, value £132, in the patronage of the Rector of Kirk-Andrews upon Esk. The church is situated at Kingfield, and was rebuilt in 1812. The poet Armstrong was born here." "PENTON, a station on the North Eastern railway, county Cumberland. It is situated near the Scottish border, at the confluence of the rivers Kershope and Liddel."
