POLICE BREVITIES. ASHOVER - Joseph Carline, minor, of Kelstedge, Ashover, was fined 2s. 6d. and 4s. costs by Clay Cross Bench on Friday for riding a cycle and failing to give audible warning of his approach on December 31st. P.c. Starling gave details. Before same Bench, Edward Hall, grocer of Littlemoor, Ashover, was summoned for riding a motor cycle and allowing exhaust gases to escape without passing through a silencer on December 31st. And further with failing to have identification plates properly illuminated. P.c. Wilcoxon and Inspector Kinder gave evidence, and an inclusive fine of 13s. was imposed. Before Clay Cross Bench on Friday, John Wood, labourer of Milltown, Ashover, was summoned for damaging the glass panel of a door to extent of 4s. at Ashover on December 27th, property of Rector, Rev. J. B. Nodder. - Defendant, admitting offence, said that he did it “for a lark”; he had no intention of breaking window. Defendant was fined 27s., including costs.
