Church History
- The Anglican parish church is dedicated to Saint Michael.
- The formal dedication is to the "Holy Name of Jesus, St Michael & All Angels".
- The church had originally just been a Chapel of Ease, but in 1870 it became its own ecclesastical parish.
- The written history of this church is somewhat obscure. It was possibly a catholic chapel originally.
- The church was built in the 1700s.
- The chaple was restored in 1877.
- The church seats 100.

Church Records
- The Anglican parish register dates from 1855.
- The church was in the rural deanery of Bakewell.
- A Wesleyan Methodist chapel was built in 1857 on Main Street. This is now the Wesleyan Reform Church. Unverified reports tell us that the church is closed.
- A Primitive Methodist chapel was built in 1867 on Upper Town Lane. This chapel is also now closed.

Description and Travel
"BIRCHOVER, a chapelry in the parish of Youlgreave, hundred of High Peak, in the county of Derby, 1 mile from Winster. It is in the honour of Tutbury, and duchy of Lancaster."
