Latest Information New April 2004

Most of you have heard of this index, the first edition of which is now available on CDs. A number of you will have purchased it. However, you may not be aware that the Derbyshire Ancestral Research Group is the only group in our county who is at present contributing to this project.

It takes many hours of work to transcribe each burial register, especially when the entries are hard to decipher. The transcripts are then sent for inputting onto computer and printouts are sent to us for checking. Sheets which need correcting are returned to the inputter who after any corrections are made, sends the completed work on disc to be merged into the NBI database under the control of the Federation of Family History Societies.

Latest Information New

We are continuing to transcribe records for the National Burial Index. So far 37 Derbyshire parishes have been included in this index amounting to over 80,000 entries. The second edition of this index is shortly to be released and entries will be added to the listings already searchable on CDROM.

The transcribed burial registers, along with the transcriptions of marriage and baptism records are available for research at our Library in Birchwood Chapel, Birchwood Lane, Somercotes. Specific searches can be made for those who are not able to visit the Library. All queries must include SAE or two International Reply Coupons, sent to Mrs. Waterall 86 High Street, Loscoe, Heanor, Derbys. DE75 7LF. We do not make a charge for this service, but donations are appreciated. Please make cheques payable to "Derbyshire Ancestral Research Group". (DARG in not acceptable at our Bank) - thank you.
