KIRK LANGLEY, Derbyshire - Extract from National Gazetteer, 1868

"KIRK LANGLEY, a parish in the hundred of Morleston, county Derby, 4½ miles N. W. of Derby, its post town. The parish includes the township of Langley Meynell. The village is considerable, but wholly agricultural. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Lichfield, value £318. The church, dedicated to St. Michael, was much damaged by a violent tempest in 1545. The parochial charities produce about £14 per annum, of which £12 goes to Bayley's school. Langley Hall is the principal residence."

"MEYNELL LANGLEY, a township in the parish of Kirk-Langley, hundred of Morleston, county Derby, 4 miles W. by N. of Derby. This township is exempt from tithes, although not separately rated to the poor. Godfrey Meynell, Esq., is lord of the manor."
