MARSTON-MONTGOMERY, Derbyshire - Extract from National Gazetteer, 1868

"MARSTON-MONTGOMERY, a parish in the hundred of Appletree, county Derby, 5 miles N.W. of Uttoxeter, its post town, and 7 S.W. of Ashbourne. The village, which is small and irregularly built, is situated near the river Dove, and is wholly agricultural. The tithes have been commuted for a rent-charge of £140. The living is a rectory annexed to that of Cubley, in the diocese of Lichfield. The church, dedicated to St. Giles, is situated on an eminence, and is a small structure, with a tower containing three bells. The parochial charities produce about £6 per annum. There are parochial and Sunday schools, also a place of worship for the Wesleyan Methodists."
