ROWLAND, Derbyshire - Extract from National Gazetteer, 1868

[Description(s) from The National Gazetteer (1868)]
"ROWLAND, a township and village in the parish of Bakewell, hundred of High Peak, county Derby, 2 miles N. of Bakewell, and 2 S.W. of Stoney-Middleton. The village, which is of small extent, is situated on rising ground, and is sheltered on the N. by a range of hills. The inhabitants are chiefly employed in agriculture. The principal part of the land is devoted to pasture. Colonel Leslie is lord of the manor and chief landowner."
