The "Domesday" hundreds of Devon: VII. and VIII.
The Hundreds of Bampton and Ufculm

Trans. Devon. Assoc. vol. 30 (1898) pp. 434-457.

by

Oswald J. Reichel

Prepared by Michael Steer

Devon used to be divided for administrative purposes into 32 "hundreds". The Hundred of Bampton, or as it is written in the Geld-roll Badentona, did not at the time of the Geld-roll include the same area that it now does. It did not include Uffculme. or as it was written Offecolum. That constituted a separate Hundred. The paper, read at the Association's August 1898 Honiton meeting is the VI and VIII in Reichel's series on Devon's Domesday Hundreds. Google with the Archive Organization has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. The Internet Archive makes available, in its Community Texts Collection (originally known as Open Source Books), books that have been digitised by Google from a number of libraries. These are books on which copyright has expired, and are available free for educational and research use. This rare book was produced from a copy held by the University of Michigan Library, and is available from the Internet Archive.
