JOHN FOUNTAIN (fl. 1550)

When and where this man was born we cannot say, but it is recorded that he was a Devonian, and wrote a play entitled 'The Reward of Virtue', which was afterwards remodelled, and performed under the title 'The Royal Shepherdess'.

'The Reward of Vertue, A comedie,' by F.J., Gent; 166.  'The Royal Shepherdess' a tragi-comedy [in five acts, and in prose and verse, altered by T. Shadwell from 'The Reward of Virtue,' by J.F.].  London, 1669, 4to.  Another edition, 1691.
