Bovey Tracey Cricket Club

150th Year Souvenir Brochure. Manaton: Moor Print, pp. 43.

Prepared by Michael Steer

The first recorded cricket game in Bovey was played in 1848 between the married and single men at the Town's Pottery. In 1850 the Town's Cricket Club was formed, making it one of the oldest in Devon. The handsome brochure commemorating the Club's sesquicentennial contains a great deal of information about the club, for example, important fixtures and Club Awards, as well as an excellent short history in seven chapters of cricket in Bovey. It provides the reader with a 'snapshot' of summer recreational life in a small Devonshire town at the turn of the new century. The brochure is not paginated, so the index was developed by creating page numbers, with the first page (p.1) as the inside front cover and the final page (p.43) as the back cover page.
