BRIDFORD

[Description(s) from The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland (1868)]

"BRIDFORD, a parish in the hundred of Wonford, in the county of Devon, 4 miles to the E. of Moreton Hampstead. Chudleigh is its post town. It is situated in a hilly and wooded district, with picturesque scenery, near the river Teign, a branch of which runs through the parish. The principal hills are Coldston Down and Helter Rock. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Exeter, of the value of £305, in the patronage of Sir L. V. Palk, Bart. The church possesses a screen, a rood-loft, and a carved pulpit, and is dedicated to St. Thomas-a-Becket. The parochial charities amount to £3 a year."
