Notices of Certain Ecclesiastical Matters at Chagford in the Olden Time

Trans. Devon Assoc. vol. 18 (1886), pp. 370-375.

by

G. Wareing Ormerod

Prepared by Michael Steer

The paper, read at the Association's 1886 St Marychurch meeting follows the author's paper entitled 'Historical Sketch of the Parish of Chagford', delivered 10 years earlier. In the first paper, a list of rectors and a short history of the church were presented. Among the interesting items omitted were (a) a statement of tithes in 1593, (b) payments to Chantry Priests and (c) charges connected with alterations at the East end of the church. These three focal areas provide the substance of Ormerod's 1886 paper. Google with the Archive Organization has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. The Internet Archive makes available, in its Community Texts Collection (originally known as Open Source Books), books that have been digitised by Google from a number of libraries. These are books on which copyright has expired, and are available free for educational and research use. This rare book was produced from a copy held by the Princeton University Library, and is available from the Internet Archive.
