CHALLACOMBE, a parish in the hundred of SHERWILL, county of DEVON, 10 miles (N. E. by E.} from Barnstaple, containing 240 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Barnstaple, and diocese of Exeter, rated in the king's books at £11. 9. 2., and in the patronage of Earl Fortescue. The church is dedicated to the Holy Trinity.
