In the name of God Amen The fourth day of October Anno Domini 1649 - I John Snell of Shalley ato Chawleigh in the County of Devon yeoman being of good health and perfect memory thanks be unto god Revoking all former wills and testaments by me heretofore made Doe make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and forme following ffirst and principally I render and yield my soul unto Almighty god my Creator Redeemer and Sanctifier And my body to Christian burial in devout and Christian manner to be interred expecting joyfull resurrection of the same againe the last day of judgement. Item I give devise and bequeath unto Grace my wife all those severall tenements and leases with the appertances called or commonly known by the name and names of Nethercott Tollworthy and Yolden for and during the term of fourtyfour and nineteen yeares if she so long live and not longer doing therin nor ...... And also all the right estate title terme interest and demand which I have and ...... to have in and to one tenement with the appurtenances in Challey ato Chawleigh aforesaid called or commonly known by the name of Woodhouse which I have by the grant and devise of Joane Lange, George Snell her sonne and William Crooke. Item I give and bequeath unto my sonne Robert Snell five shillings sterling to be paid him within one year after my death. Item I give and bequeath unto my sonne Anthony Snell five and twenty pounds sterling to be paid him within one year after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Snell one hundred pounds currant mony of England to be paid her within one year after my death. Item I give unto my daughter Mary Subburgh five shillings of lawfull mony of England to be paid her within one quarter of a year after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto my sonne George Snell fforty shillings of lawfull English mony to be paid him within two months after my death. Item I give unto my daughter Thomazine five shillings of lawfull English mony to be paid her within one year after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto John Rowe my Grandchild twenty shillings of lawfull mony of England to be paid him within one year after my death. Item I give and bequeath unto Grace Rowe my Granchild fforty shillings lawfull mony of England to be paid her within one year after my death. And to the other three of my Daughter Thomazine's children I give five shillings a piece of lawful mony as aforesaid to be paid each of them at the aforesd time. Item I give and bequeath unto the poore people of the parish of Challey aforesaid fforty shillings of currant mony of England to be paid them in manner and forme following (viz) twenty shillings therof to be distributed amongst them at my ffunerall, and other twenty shillings to be distributed amongst at the feast of the Birth of our Lord God which shall first happen after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto all those that shall be my apprentices at the time of my death to each of them one sheepe apeice to be delivered to them presently after my death. Item I give and bequeath unto my sonne John Snell one heifer of three years old to be delivered him within two months after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Grace five shillings sterling to be paid her within one quarter of a year after my decease Item I give unto my daughter Mary Shubbrook's children five shillings sterling apiece to be paid them within two years after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto my sonne George Snell's children five shillings sterling apiece to be paid them within two years after my death Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Grace's children five shillings sterling apiece to be paid each of them within two years after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto my sonne John Snell's children five shillings sterling apiece to be paid them within two years after my decease. Item I make Grace my wife my whole and sole executrix of this my last will and testament unto whom I give and devise all the rest and residue of all my goods and chattells whatsoever not before herein given or bequeathed in witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seale given the day and year first above written and do publish the same to be my last will and testament in the sight and presence of those whose names are hereunto subscribed

Signed John Snell Memorandum in that the said John Snell did publish these to be his last will and testament Revoking all former wills by him made and also signed and sealed in the sight and presence of signed Warren Dorrand signed Dexter Rodd (?) Richard Balsdon Junr Jonathan Rashleigh

This will was proved at London before Sr Nathaniel Burnt Knight Doctor of Law Master or Keeper of the Prerogative Court this sixteenth day of September in the year of our Lord God one thousand six hundred ffifty one on the oath of Grace Snell the Relict of the said deceased and the Executrix named in the said will to whom was remitted Administration of all and singular the goods chattells and debts of the said deceased she being first by virtue of & Commission legally secured with and truly to administer the same.
