CHELDON, a parish in the hundred of WITHERIDGE, county of DEVON, 3 miles (E. by S.) from Chulmleigh, containing 96 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry of Barnstable, and diocese of Exeter, rated in the king's books at £4. 18. 6½., endowed with £200 private benefaction, and £200 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Hon. N. Fellowes. The church is dedicated to St. Mary.
