CHELDON, a parish in the hundred of WITHERIDGE,county of DEVON, 3 miles (E. by S.) from Chulmleigh,containing 96 inhabitants. The living is a dischargedrectory, in the archdeaconry of Barnstable, and dioceseof Exeter, rated in the king's books at £4. 18. 6½., endowedwith £200 private benefaction, and £200 royalbounty, and in the patronage of the Hon. N. Fellowes.The church is dedicated to St. Mary.
