Eighth Report of the Committee on Church Plate - Deaneries of Ottery and Honiton
Report and Transactions of the Devonshire Association for the Advancement of Science, Literature and the Arts. Vol. 49, 3rd Series
Plymouth: W Brendan & Son (1917). Paper read at Barnstaple July 19th, illus. pp. 109-158.
Prepared by Michael Steer
During 1917, the author moved from North Devon to Marlands, Exmouth then visited and inspected the plate in the Deaneries of Ottery and Honiton. The Rural Deanery of Ottery consists of 19 parishes and two chapelries. Four of the parishes were new at that time, and had been established from the large and ancient parish of Ottery St Mary. With the exception of the towns of Ottery and Sidmouth it is entirely rural. Honiton is the largest Rural Deanery in Devon. It has 32 parishes, all of which except two are very old. It contains the ancient towns of Axminster, Honiton and Colyton, as well as Seaton and Beer.
