Trans. Devon. Assoc. vol. 14, (1882), pp. 395-401.

by

J. Brooking Rowe

Prepared by Michael Steer

The paper, read at the Association's July 1882 Crediton meeting addresses the life of its author's uncle. The Rev. Samuel Rowe was vicar of Holy Cross Church, Crediton from 1835 until his death in September 1853. He is best known for his many and varied writings and in particular for his book 'A Perambulation of Dartmoor' first published in 1848. He is buried in the west end of the churchyard where his tomb is currently in a poor state of repair. In 2012, funds were being raised to repair the tomb. Google with the Archive Organization has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. The Internet Archive makes available, in its Community Texts Collection (originally known as Open Source Books), books that have been digitised by Google from a number of libraries. These are books on which copyright has expired, and are available free for educational and research use. This rare book was produced from a copy held by the Princeton University Library, and is available from the Internet Archive.
