Though Dartmoor Forest lies wholly within Lydford, the general area now known as Dartmoor can be regarded as consisting of the parishes of Ashburton, Belstone, Bridford, Buckfastleigh, Buckland in the Moor, Buckland Monachorum, Chagford, Cornwood, Dean Prior, Drewsteignton, Dunsford, Gidleigh, Harford, Hennock, Holne, Ilsington, Lustleigh, Lydford, Manaton, Mary Tavy, Meavy, Moretonhampstead, North Bovey, Okehampton, Peter Tavy, Sampford Spiney, Shaugh Prior, Sheepstor, Sourton, South Brent, South Tawton, Throwleigh, Ugborough, Walkhampton, Whitchurch, and Widecombe in the Moor.

General information about the Dartmoor area which cannot be conveniently allocated to Lydford or to another of the above parishes is given here.
