Prepared by Michael Steer

This paper is the first in a series on the life and career of Sir Walter Raleigh, written and delivered at the Association's 1898 Ashburton meeting by Thomas Nadauld Brushfield, MD, FSA. (1828-1910). All papers in the series were later aggregated and published as a book. This initial paper introduces Sir Walter Raleigh, his three wives, as well as his children and other family members. Google with the Archive Organization has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. The Internet Archive makes available, in its Community Texts Collection (originally known as Open Source Books), books that have been digitised by Google from a number of libraries. These are books on which copyright has expired, and are available free for educational and research use. This rare book was produced from a copy held by the New York Public Library, and is available from the Internet Archive.
