Samuel Gardner Drake (1798-1875) was an eminent American antiquarian. In 1828, he established an antiquarian bookstore in Boston; the first of its kind in the United States, and devoted himself to the study of early US history. He continued in business as a bookseller and publisher for the remainder of his life, and the most noted writers of his day availed themselves of the extensive store of information he had collected. Drake was one of the founders (1847) of the New England Historic Genealogical Society, was its president in 1858. He for many years was the editor of its quarterly Register, contributing many articles. In 1858-60 he resided in London. This rare and much sought-after book was produced digitally by Google from a copy in the University of Indiana Library collection and can be downloaded from HathiTrust. Google has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. These books, on which copyright has expired, are available for free educational and research use, both as individual books and as full collections to aid researchers.
