This Note on the Yeo family provides records extracted from the British Museum's copy of J L Vivian's manuscript "Extracts from Parish Registers and Transcripts in Co. Devon. Yeo is an ancient Devon family. First mention of the name was of one William atte Yeo, who was Sheriff of Devon in 1359. William was knighted in 1346 by King Edward 111, who called him 'my beloved'. It has been suggested that this was because of William's bravery in the Battle of Crecy. Google with the Archive Organization has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. The Internet Archive makes available, in its Community Texts Collection (originally known as Open Source Books), books that have been digitised by Google from a number of libraries. These are books on which copyright has expired, and are available free for educational and research use. The copy of this rare book is held at the Princeton University Library and is available from the Internet Archive.
