The tutors of the revived academy (it had been open earlier in the century, apparently 1710-1720, but closed down) were:

Reverend Samuel Merivale (d. 1771)
John Turner, Minister, 1757-69, of the Presbyterian congregations at Lympstone and Gulliford
John Hogg, Minister 1772-1789 of Mint Meeting and subsequently a banker at Exeter: and after the death of Mr Turner, about the year 1769, Thomas Jervis, his successor at Lympstone and Gulliford . . . .

The Academy was closed on the death of Samuel Merivale . . .
