The Act Books contain entries of the meetings of the Council of the City of Exeter and the Orders and Minutes of that body. This particular book is a paper volume in small folio, bound in tooled leather; the clasps are lost. The order of the leaves has been disturbed by the binder. In the binding is a mutilated slip (containing portions of Psalm lvi) possibly from the Cathedral, The earliest entry is 8 June, 1560, from which they continue in chronological order to 24 Noveber 1581. They then go back to 24 Nov. 1580, and are continued to 26 December 1580. A great part of the volume is in the handwriting of John Vowell alias Hoker.
