The Register of Walter de Stapledon, Bishop of Exeter (1307-1326)

by

Rev, F.C. Hingeston-Randolph, M.A.

London: George Bell & Sons, York Street, Covent Garden
Exeter: Henry S. Eland, High Street
William Pollard & Co., Printers, North Street. 634 pp.

Prepared by Michael Steer

Bishop Stapledon founded Exeter College, Oxford. He was made Lord Treasurer in the absence of King Edward II and was murdered in a London Street riot. His body 'bundled into a hole'. The registers of the Diocese of Exeter compiled during Stapledon's episcopate are actually three distinct registers bound together at a comparatively recent period. A print copy of Hingeston-Randolph's (1892) book is held at the University of California Library and was produced from a digital copy that can be downloaded from https://archive.org/details/registerofwalter00exetrich
Microsoft (MSN) has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. These books, on which copyright has expired, are available for free educational and research use, both as individual books and as full collections to aid researchers.
