Will of William Hartiput, Gentleman of Exeter

In the Name of God Amen I William Hartiput of Exeter Gentleman do recommend my Soul into the hands of our blessed Saviour and my Body to the care of my Executors hereafter named to be placed in a double Coffin and therein to be Interr'd ten foot under Ground at such place as they shall judge most decent As to any Temporal Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me I give and dispose as follows Imprimis I give and forgive to Joseph Otterleighe of the City of Exeter Gentleman all the Money which he shall owe to me at my death Item I give to my Executrix hereafter named fforty pounds In Trust to pay the same to such Person or Persons and in such manner as my Daughter Susannah Neville shall by any Writing to be attested by one or more Witnesses exclusive of her present Husband's Controul or Interposition direct and appoint and after the death of my said Daughter Susannah's present Husband Then I give her an Annuity of Sixty Pounds a year to be paid her half yearly for and during the term of her natural life Item I give to my Servant Elizabeth Hadderidge if She shall be living with me at my death Thirty Pounds Item I give to my Granddaughters Elizabeth and Susannah Sclater Three Thousand pounds equally to be divided between them to be paid to them of the Survivor of them at the Age of Twenty six or if their Mother shall think fit the said Three Thousand pounds or any part thereof to them or either of them to be paid sooner so as neither of them during both their lives receive more than a Moiety thereof But if both or either of them shall happen to Marry without the Consent and approbation of their Mother Then I give the said Three Thousand pounds or the Moiety of such of them as shall so Marry without their Mother's consent to their Mother And it is also my Will that if both or either of my said Granddaughters shall refuse or in six months after they shall attain the Age of Twenty one and request made to them in Writing for that purpose shall neglect to join in and Execute any Deed or Conveyance which my Daughter their Mother by Bond or otherwise shall be engaged at my death for their executing then they or such of them as shall so refuse shall lose the said Three Thousand pounds or her Moiety thereof and in such case I give the said Three Thousand pounds or the Moiety thereof to my said Daughter their Mother Item I give to my good friend Mr Richard King ten pounds Item I give to the Charity Schools of the City of Exeter one year's Subscription after my death and to be continued so long as my Executrix hereafter named shall think proper Item I give to Mr John Trehawke of Leskard in the County of Cornwall Esquire ten pounds And to Mr Samuel John of Lyons Inn Gentleman ten pounds hereby recommending and desiring them to be Trustees and Overseers as to the Execution of this my Will and therein to be aiding and assisting to my Executrix And all the Rest and Residue of my Real and Personal Estate Subject to the Payment of such Debts as I shall owe at the time of my death and the Legacies hereinbefore named I give and bequeath to my said Daughter Elizabeth Crab Sclater her Heirs Executors and Administrators for her and their own use and benefit and make ordain and appoint my said Daughter Elizabeth Crab Sclater whole and sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former and other Wills In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal the thirty first day of October in the Year of Our Lord One thousand seven hundred and forty eight W: H:
