The book, presented in 1897 to its public after a lapse of nearly 300 years is the genealogical common-place book of Tristram Risdon Esq, author of the famous Chorographical Description or Survey of the County of Devon. The original is in MS form and held in the Cathedral Library at Exeter. This section of Risdon's Note Book covers the period from Henry I to Charles I. The List of Sheriffs of Devon corresponds with the printed list in the Chorographical Description, but differs in many ways from that published in the 31st Annual Report of the Deputy Master of the Rolls. It is likely, according to the authors, that no accurate list of these officials exists. Google with the Archive Organization has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. The Internet Archive makes available, in its Community Texts Collection (originally known as Open Source Books), books that have been digitised by Google from a number of libraries. These are books on which copyright has expired, and are available free for educational and research use. The copy of this rare book is held in the Library of the University of California, and is available from the Internet Archive.
