The Note-Book of Tristram Risdon, 1608-1628:
The Peers, Baronets and Knights holding land in Devon with their Arms
London: Elliot Stock (1897), pp. 96-121.
by
J. Dallas and H.G.Porter
Prepared by Michael Steer
The book, presented in 1897 to its public after a lapse of nearly 300 years is the genealogical common-place book of Tristram Risdon Esq, author of the famous Chorographical Description or Survey of the County of Devon. The original is in MS form and held in the Cathedral Library at Exeter. This section of Risdon's Note Book covers the period from Edward III to Charles I and is the fourth section of the note book. The armorial blazons in this section follow the pattern of those in the General Armory, with the arms tricked and unfortunately with several exceptions, un-tinctured. Google with the Archive Organization has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. The Internet Archive makes available, in its Community Texts Collection (originally known as Open Source Books), books that have been digitised by Google from a number of libraries. These are books on which copyright has expired, and are available free for educational and research use. The copy of this rare book is held in the Library of the University of California, and is available from the Internet Archive.
