Prepared by Michael Steer

Colonel Hugh Bampfield, the only son of Sir Copleston Bampfield, Bt. of Poltimore, married Mary, only daughter of James Clifford Esq of Borscombe and Kingsteignton. They had two sons; Sir Copleston Warwick Bampfield, Bt, and John Bampfield. The ancestral seat of the Bampfylde family was Poltimore House, near Exeter, and from the 15th.c. at North Molton. Their Exeter townhouse was Bampfylde House, built c. 1590 and destroyed by bombing in 1942. Google with the Archive Organization has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. The Internet Archive makes available, in its Community Texts Collection (originally known as Open Source Books), books that have been digitised by Google from a number of libraries. These are books on which copyright has expired, and are available free for educational and research use. This rare book was produced from a copy held by the New York Public Library, and is available from the Internet Archive.
