This presentation, given at the Association's Ilfracombe meeting was described in the North Devon Journal of 31 July 1879 as a "highly interesting paper, read by Mr. R. W. Cotton, of Newton Abbott, formerly of Barnstaple, respecting not only the fleet in the year 1588, but historical events connected with North Devon.
