In the Prerogative Court of Canterbury.

This is the last Will and Testament of me Isaac Dawson of Modbury in the County of Devon Clerk which I make constitute and appoint in manner following that is to say I recommend my Soul to God through the merits of Jesus Christ and I wish my body to be decently buried at Modbury and as to for and concerning my worldly goods and chattels real and personal estate and effects of what nature or kind soever of which I am now possessed or of which I may at any time hereafter be possessed I give and bequeath the same as follows namely To Thomas Thompson of Langdale my nephew I give and bequeath the sum of Five hundred pounds stock standing in the public funds  To John Dawson of Kendal my grandnephew I give and bequeath the sum of Five hundred pounds stock standing in the public funds  To Thomas Benson my nephew and his brothers and sisters who may be alive at the time of my death I give and bequeath the sum of Five hundred pounds standing in the public funds to be divided among them share and share alike  To my brother James's daughters I give and bequeath the sum of Four hundred pounds sterling to be divided among them share and share alike These legacies to be paid free of legacy duty out of the monies standing in my name in the stock now called the new 3 per cent formerly the 3 1/4 per cent annuities within twelve months after my death according to the convenience of the executor of this my Will and after the payment of my just debts and funeral expenses I give and bequeath the residue of my property of what nature or kind soever whether personal or real to John Dawson of Modbury Bachelor of Arts of Brasenose College Oxford my grandnephew  also I give and devise to the same John Dawson of Modbury etc.all my freehold property at Modbury  consisting of houses gardens and an orchard and my freehold house and premises at Saltash Cornwall   To Jane Dawson my niece I give my gold watch with a request that it may never go out of the family  And I hereby appoint the aforesaid John Dawson of Modbury etc. sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former Will or Wills by me at any time heretofore made and declaring this only to be my last Will and Testament    In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this eighth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty five - Isaac Dawson  Signed sealed published and declared as and for his last Will and Testament by the said Testator Isaac Dawson in the presence of us who have at his request and in his presence and also in the presence of each other set our names as witnesses hereto

Proved at London 20th October 1855 before the Judge by the oath of John Dawson Bachelor of Arts the sole Executor to whom Adm[inistrati]on was granted having been first sworn by Com[missi]on duly to administer

On Inland Revenue Certificate testator's name is given as The Revd. Isaac Dawson Modbury Local History Society Archives Ref. P2.12
