NEWTON (ST. CYRES), a parish in the hundred of CREDITON, county of DEVON, 3½ miles (S. E. by E.). from Crediton, containing 1083 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Exeter, rated in the king's books at £16. 15. 5., and in the patronage of J. Quicke, Esq. A fair for cattle is held on the Monday following Midsummer-day. Lead ore and manganese are obtained in the parish.
