ST. GILES-IN-THE-HEATH

"ST. GILES-IN-THE-HEATH, a parish in the hundred of Black Torrington, county Devon, 5 miles N.E. of Launceston, and 8 S. of Holsworthy. It is situated near the river Tamer and the Bude canal, which passes within a short distance of the village. The land is chiefly arable, and the population agricultural. The impropriate tithes have been commuted for a rent-charge of £123 14s. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Exeter, value £100. There is a parochial school. Fairs are held on the third Wednesday in April, and a fortnight before Lammas.
