TWITCHEN

[Description(s) from The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland (1868)]

"TWITCHEN, a parish in the hundred of Soutra Molton, county Devon, 6 miles N.E. from South Molton, its post town, and 4 from North Molton. Tho village is situated on the border of the county, adjacent to Exmoor Forest. The living is a perpetual curacy annexed to the vicarage of North Molton, in the diocese of Exeter. The church, dedicated to St. Peter, was rebuilt in 1844. It has a painted E. window. There is a day school for both sexes. The Wesleyans have a chapel at the Mills. Lord Poltimore is lord of the manor."
