WASHFORD-PYNE

"WASHFORD-PYNE, a parish in the hundred of Witheridge, county Devon, 8 miles N. of Crediton. Morchard Bishop's is its post town. The village is situated on the road from Exeter to South-Molton, and on a branch of the river Taw. There was until recently a considerable tract of moor, which has been drained and enclosed. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Exeter, value £144. The church is dedicated to St. Peter. There was formerly a chapel-of-ease at Wenham. The parochial charities produce about £1 10s. per annum. The Rev. C. Tucker is lord of the manor and principal landowner."
