"LAYER-de-la-HAY, a parish in the hundred of WINSTREE, county of ESSEX, 4 miles (S. W. by S.) from Colchester, containing 603 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry of Colchester, and diocese of London, endowed with £600 private benefaction, and £600 royal bounty. John Bawtree, Esq. was patron in 1826."
