ALDERTON, Gloucestershire - Extract from National Gazetteer, 1868

"ALDERTON, a parish in the upper division of the hundred of Tewkesbury, in the county of Gloucester, 4 miles to the N.W. of Winchcombe. It contains the hamlet of Dixton, and is near the Cotswold hills. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Gloucester and Bristol, value £450, in the patronage of the Rev. C. Covey, the rector. The church is dedicated to St. Margaret. A Saxon camp has left some remains here."

"DIXTON, a hamlet in the parish of Alderton, in the county of Gloucester, 3 miles N.W. of Winchcombe. There are some remains of an ancient chapel. Dixton House is the principal residence."
