- Francis MARSH was baptised in Edgeworth Church in October 1626.
He was educated at Emmanuel College Cambridge, going to Ireland during
the Cromwellian period, to become subsequently the Archibishop of Dublin
(1682-93). He opposed Tyrconnel, and withdrew to England in 1689,
but returned to Ireland after the Battle of the Boyne, 1690
[q.v. Alumni Cantabriensis]. His name was first on the the Act of
Attainder List of King James II, prior to the Battle.
He married Bishop Jeremy TAYLOR's daughter, Mary, and died in Dublin
on 16th Nov 1693. He is buried in Christ Church Cathedral, and his wife
Mary was apparently buried with him a few years later.
He had a brother Henry, who had at least two daughters. Their father was
also named Henry, and his father was also Francis MARSH; the latter is said
to have been buried in Edgeworth Church. Grandfather Francis had married
Anne AYLESBURY/AILESBURY and they had several children in or around
Edgeworth; he also had a number of men serving in the Militia.
