"FORTHAMPTON, a parish in the lower division of the hundred of Tewkesbury, county Gloucester, 2 miles W. of Tewkesbury, its post town, and 11 N. of Gloucester. It is situated on the western side of the river Severn. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Gloucester and Bristol, value £138. The church is an ancient stone edifice, built in the form of a cross, and dedicated to St. Mary. There is a National school for both sexes, which is partly endowed. Forthampton Court, the residence of J. Yorke, Esq., who is lord of the manor, is said to have been a part of the demesne of the abbey of Tewkesbury."
