Wills which were proved at Bristol Episcopal Consistory Court may be found at the Bristol Record Office. Those dated after 1858 can be found at the Probate Department of The Principal Registry Family Division - Probate Search Room, First Avenue House, 42-49 High Holborn, London, WC1V 6NP, and at local Registries.

Abbreviations which may be used on this page are:-

(Ad) "Admon", or Letters of Administration.
(I) Inventory (a list of the deceased's goods, and their value)
(N) A Nuncupative Will is one declared by a legal representative, as being indicative
of the deceased's wishes, and will often refer to the Testator in the third person.
(#) Indicates the Will is a 'duplicate' - that is, more than one person has submitted an
abstract from the same original Will.
 * An asterisk against a surname indicates the Executor(s) of the Will, or, in the case

Item: the poorest and neediest sort of people of the said parishe of Olveston shall have six bushells of wheate... 20 days after my decease - "fowers bushells to the poorest and needyest sorte of people of Tockington and two bushells to the poorest and neediest sorte of people of Olveston". Item: Jhon HAINES sonne of William HAYNES deceassed - fortie shillinges... within 40 days after my decease "yf my wyfe Mary shall not be willinge to keepe and retayne him in her service untill he shall accomplish the full age of sixteene yeares".
