Unless otherwise stated, original copies of Wills dated prior to 1858 are usually found in the appropriate Diocesan Record Office for the court where the Will was proved - for Gloucestershire, this is the Gloucester Record Office. Wills which were proved at Bristol Episcopal Consistory Court may be found at the Bristol Record Office. Copies of Wills for which Probate was granted at the PCC (Prerogative Court of Canterbury) may be obtained via the DocumentsOnline website.

Bequests: each of my said Trustees - the legacy of £10 free of duty; to my second cousin Mary Louisa CHOWN - £10 and to my nieces Mary Ann IRELAND and Lily IRELAND - £5 each free of duty; to my said wife - my 1794 clock, to my daughter Mabel Ellison IRELAND - my sitting room piano, to my said son - my watch and chain and all other jewellery belonging to me; to my wife for use during her life - all my books and bookcases and my drawing room piano and my steel engraving of Salisbury Cathedral, the large mahogany chest of drawers given to me by Mr ROPER and the escritoire given to me by Mr THACKWELL, and at her decease the said chest of drawers to my son John Henry Roper IRELAND and the said escritoire to my daughter Mabel Ellison IRELAND. I give devise and bequeath all the rest residue &c. to my trustees upon trust to sell call in and convert into money as they shall think fit to pay the income thereof to my said wife so long as she remains my widow and on death or remarriage both capital and income for the benefit of my said son and daughter in equal shares, provided always (they) shall not sell my business and premises known as the Gloucester House Private Hotel nor any other boarding house and premises which I may be carrying on at the time of my death unless it should be proved that such business(es) are not making a reasonable profit to justify their continuance the decision to be left to the Auditor and Accountant employed to audit the books and accounts provided always my said son shall have the option of purchasing my said business or businesses at a valuation to be made by a competent and independent valuer and that the price fixed deducted from the share of my said son in my residuary estate.
