Unless otherwise stated, original copies of Wills of Gloucestershire dated prior to 1858 can be found at the Gloucester Record Office. Wills which were proved at Bristol Episcopal Consistory Court may be found at the Bristol Record Office. Those dated after 1858 can be found at the Probate Department of The Principal Registry Family Division - Probate Search Room, First Avenue House, 42-49 High Holborn, London, WC1V 6NP, and at local Registries.

Abbreviations which may be used on this page are:-

(Ad) "Admon", or Letters of Administration.
(I) Inventory (a list of the deceased's goods, and their value)
(N) A Nuncupative Will is one declared by a legal representative, as being indicative
of the deceased's wishes, and will often refer to the Testator in the third person.
(#) Indicates the Will is a 'duplicate' - that is, more than one person has submitted an
abstract from the same original Will.
 * An asterisk against a surname indicates the Executor(s) of the Will, or, in the case
of Administration (Ad), the Administrator(s)

to be buried in the parish church of Winterbourne. to my son-in-law Robert HOSKINS - all my interest in my workhouse, tools,   etc., with a plot of ground in Stooks meade, also two horses...one bought of Leonard GRIFFYN, the other Robert HOSKINS bought of his father, and other property;   to my sonne Arthure LAUNSDEN - various furniture;   to my daughter Marye ABBOTTS - £20, paid by my son Arthur as part of the 100 marks he doth owe 6 months after the decease of me and wife Isabell;   to my daughter Johan LAUNSDON - £20;   to my son-in-law Thomas ABBOTTS - my best suit of apparel;   to Maurice WITHERLEY - my second best suit of apparel. My messuage and tenement to be inherited by (1) wife Isabell, (2) my son Arthur LAUNSDON and his wife Jane, (3) William ABBOTT (son of the said Thomas ABBOTT).

My executor shall peaceably and quietly permit those persons here nominated to use all grants made by indenture or lease by my late husband William LEWELLINGE, deceased, and by myself: 1) one indenture made to Edward GREGORIE, his wife Ellyn, and his son John;   2) one indenture or lease made to John DABSON and his wife Anne;   3) one indenture made to the said John DABSON, his wife Anne, and John MAYO the younger;   4) an indenture made to John MAYOE the younger and his sister Ellenor MAYOE of a ground called the Lyde;   5) an indenture or lease made to Prudence ORGAN and George ORGAN;   6) an indenture or lease made to Ellenor BRADSTON,   Walter GREGORIE, and William GREGORIE the thing called Rodhowse;   7) an indenture or lease to Ellenor BRADSTONE and to her son William GREGORIE the thing called Crewes in the Manor of Churchlie "provided (they) and their assigns do peaceably pay their rent".

If Ann Lippiatt THOMAS dies before she is 21 - in trust for the children of Ann BARNETT &   Hannah wife of late James TAYLOR, innkeeper.
Note: Ann Lippiatt THOMAS was born 9 Feb 1785 and married James BEVAN on 28 Aug 1804. James ELEY was one of the witnesses.
