[Description(s) from The National Gazetteer (1868)]
"STANTON, a parish in the lower division of Kiftsgate hundred, county Gloucester, 3½ miles from Broadway, its post town, and 4½ N.E. of Winchcombe. The village, which is small, is situated on the Cotswolds. The inhabitants are chiefly agricultural. The living is a rectory*, with the curacy of Snowshill annexed, in the diocese of Gloucester and Bristol, value £377. The church, dedicated to St. Bartholomew, is an ancient stone structure, with a spired tower containing six bells. T. Wynniatt, Esq., is lord of the manor."

Nineteenth century directories report the dedication of the church as St Bartholomew, but in the 17th century and again by 1900 the dedication was to St Michael and All Angels.
There is a description of a visit to Stanton in 1900 by the Bristol and Gloucestershire Archaeological Society.
